Unit title: Moodle - The First Steps


1.0 Overview

This unit is aimed at teachers who are new to the popular learning environment Moodle. The unit consists of five learning modules and a series of practical exercises that combine to create a Moodle course for a subject of your choice.

The focus of the unit is on skills and pedagogy that should equip the teacher with the knowledge and skills to develop both distance and blended learning programmes for use with their students. The unit is fully supported by online resources written by teachers for teachers in a practical context. There are no exams in this unit.

Learners will develop their Knowledge and Skills by using the common features of Moodle in creating a well constructed, pedagogically sound blended learning experience for students.

4.0 Assessment

There is one final assessment in this unit that is developed through a series of practical exercises over the duration of the unit. You will need to demonstrate how the knowledge and skills have been applied to your online course and what checks you have carried out to ensure adherence to best practice. It is only the final project that is assessed and feedback is provided through email and forums as you create your course of study by an e-tutor. You will need to provide base materials such as schemes of work, lecture notes, presentations and assessment questions for your subject area to actively participate in the project.

6.0 Delivery

On-line. A valid email address is a mandatory requirement of on-line study. Participants must be involved in the delivery of education or training at any level.
